Happy Valley Middle School was evacuated late Friday morning after someone called a bomb threat into school personnel, the Elizabethton Police Department said.
According to the Captain Joy Shoun of the Elizabethton Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, the school received a call at about 11 a.m. Friday from a person claiming that an explosive device was present at the school.
Authorities were notified and students and faculty were told to leave the building. People at the scene reported that students were sent to the neighboring high school to wait for transportation home.
The Unicoi County Sheriff’s Office and Bristol Police Department Explosive Detection K-9 Units searched the premises and found no suspicious items or explosives, Shoun said.
