Senior quarterback Coby Jones had four first half touchdown passes – three to senior WR Jared Wiltshire, and senior tailback Jerry Lunsford scored three more as the Bulldogs led 47-0 at the halftime break.

“Line did a pretty good job blocking,” stated Bulldogs head coach Mike Lunsford. “This is the first time we ran that inside trap and we wanted to make sure we got it right. Teams have been blitzing inside on us and that was an answer for that.”

After forcing a North Greene punt on the Huskies’ first possession, Hampton took over at the NG 42 yard line. It took the ‘Dogs one play – a 42 yard touchdown run by Lunsford – for Hampton to take a 7-0 lead after the point after kick by Trevor Waycaster.

“The line definitely blocked good and coach told us we were going to run that inside trap this week,” Jerry Lunsford said. “The line blocked it very well. Whenever we spread them out with the quarterback we have in Coby and our receivers, it opens things up in the middle.”

North Greene (2-7, 1-5 conference) had a good drive going on its next possession before stalling at the Hampton 22-yard line. Hampton (9-0, 6-0) was penalized five yards but Jones connected with Wiltshire on an 83-yard strike for a 14-0 ‘Dogs lead.

“First of all I give everything I have to the Lord,” said Jones. “This team just has a lot of drive to it, but we have to show up every week. Jerry ran everywhere tonight and my receivers got open somehow. Now we just have to prepare for Cumberland Gap next week.”

The ‘Dogs put up 377 yards of total offense in the first half with Lunsford rushing for 142 yards on five carries. He had scoring runs of 42, 37 and 48 yards in the half and sat the entire second half, along with Jones.

Jones had a 17-yard scoring toss to Wiltshire and a 10-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Norris and finished the half with a 49-yarder to Wiltshire.

Hampton played with sophomore QB Jason Russell in the second half and led the ‘Dogs on a pair of scoring drives. The first came right off the second half kickoff with Russell scoring on a two-yard run which capped a three play drive.

Hunter Davenport capped the last ‘Dogs’ scoring drive with a 14-yard run.

It wasn’t all roses for Hampton, however, as Neyland McClyea and Logan Spake both had to leave the field late in the fourth period. No word on how serious the injuries were.

Hampton takes to the road next week on Thursday for a game at Cumberland Gap to finish the regular season.
