Volunteer firefighters from Stoney Creek, Watauga, Hampton and Central Carter County joined forces to knock down a furnace fire at Lynn Valley Baptist Church on Broad Street. “Fortunately someone was there to notice the smoke,” said President of the Volunteer Fire Association Jason Shaw. The fire was in a concealed space and other than ruining paneling on one wall next to the baptistry and weakening the floor beneath the choir loft, damages were primarily caused by smoke. Shaw said the smoke from the fire, which began at 9:48 a.m., was pretty intense at first, but was outted quickly. Church members will reconvene in the other building till structural repairs are completed. No one was injured.
