Officer injured in standoff on Stoney Creek

A female deputy with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office was shot and injured Wednesday night in a stand off on Dry Hollow Road in the Stoney Creek community.
Radio transmissions between emergency personnel indicated the officer, who has not been identified, was flown to the Johnson City Medical Center by Wings Air Rescue. No information was available on the nature of the officer’s injuries or her condition at press time on Wednesday.
Police remained on the scene on Dry Hollow Road late Wednesday night. A witness at the scene said he saw police armed with what he described as “assault rifles” moving around the area.
Police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel closed off Dry Hollow Road as police continued the investigation into the incident.
There was no information available at press time regarding the number of suspects involved or if anyone else was injured.
