During Tuesday’s win, freshman pitcher John “Boy” Ramsey picked up the win as he led the Rangers from the mound for six innings during which he struck out five batters against two walks and six hits. Ramsey finished the game with three runs against him. Coming in for the save in the seventh was Unaka’s Blake King.

“John Boy and Blake both pitched well,” said Unaka head coach Tee Blevins. “They hit their spots. They trusted their defense. And that is our strong suit, pitching and defense, and that is what won the game for us.”

In the top of the six, the Huskies pulled the game within one run, 4-3. After being holding the Rangers scoreless in the bottom sixth, the Huskies had one more chance in the top of the seventh. However, the Rangers outfield had other plans as seniors Brent Parlier and Abram Hill snagged three consecutive fly balls to end the game.

“The outfield is made up of three of our four seniors,” Blevins said. “We rely on them, and they did a great job.”

The Rangers were led from the plate by Austin Wilson, who went 2-of-3 and recorded two runs. Both Abram Hill and King went 1-of-3, with each netting a run a piece.

The Huskies picked up the two runs in the fourth, before the Rangers snagged a run in the first and three in the third to take a 4-2 lead.

With the win, the Rangers moved their conference record to 3-1.
