Burning banned in city limits

Burning within the city limits of Elizabethton is prohibited until further notice due to low humidity, dry vegetation and high winds, according to Elizabehton Fire Marshall Andy Hardin.
“We’ve had fires in Milligan and several in the county,” said Hardin. “People think they can burn a contained pile and it ends up spreading everywhere.”
Even light rains are not sufficient to soak the ground, he said.
“We will inform the public when it is safe to burn again,” he said.
