Burn ban lifted with some restrictions still in place

While the Elizabethton Fire Department has lifted the total burn ban it put into effect last week, there are still some burn restrictions in place that residents must follow.
“Conditions have improved so we are going to lift the burn ban with some exceptions,” EFD Fire Marshal Andy Hardin said.
Hardin said anyone who wishes to burn needs to call the Elizabethton Fire Department at 542-5421 on the day they plan to burn anything.
“We will assess what is going on and let them know if they can burn or not,” Hardin said.
Calling in before burning must be done on a daily basis, Hardin said. “They can’t call in on Monday and then be good to burn Monday through Friday,” he said.
Hardin also wants to remind residents the only items that may legally be burned are brush, leaves and vegetation.
“Anything that is not natural cannot be burned,” Hardin said, adding that includes treated or painted wood.
