TCATE students capture medals at state competition

For the sixth consecutive year, a Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Elizabethton (TCATE) student received a gold medal in the welding competition at the SkillsUSA state competition in Chattanooga held earlier this month.
Zackery Hyder of Carter County was the gold medalist in welding.
Also receiving gold medals were Daniel Hyduk of Washington County, and Logan Barnett and Zachery Whaley, both of Carter County, in CPS manufacturing.
Receiving silver medals were Jesus Perez of Unicoi County in welding sculpture; Alex Templeton and Landon South, both of Washington County, and Joshua Harris of Unicoi County in welding fabrication; from Johnson County, Shatona Lunceford Bennett, Rhonda Tuttle, Samantha Minks, Mikaela Morefield, Mary McFadden, Jennifer Minks and Kristy Perry in opening and closing ceremony.
Bronze medalist was Zachery Buckles of Carter County in diesel power equipment.
Gold medalists will advance to the national SkillsUSA competition in Louisville, Ky., June 20-24.
More than 4,600 winners of SkillsUSA state competition events compete in 80 occupational and leadership skills areas in national competition. SkillsUSA programs help establish industry standards for job training in health, trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
