Zackery Hyder, a graduate of Happy Valley High School, became the sixth welding student at TCAT Elizabethton in as many years to receive a gold medal in SkillsUSA state competition in Chattanooga, recently.
Also receiving gold medals, from left, were Logan Barnett, graduate of Cloudland High School, Zackery Whaley, graduate of Happy Valley High School, and Daniel Hyduk, graduate of Davy Crockett High School in Washington County, pictured with a cavitational water heater that heats a 3.8 inch stream of water to 160 degrees continuously. Upon graduation from TCAT Elizabethton, Hyder said he hopes to join the Eastman workforce; Hyduk is pursuing a millwright career path; Whaley desires to become a turbine mechanic; and Barnett is pursing a career path in industrial maintenance.
The four gold medalists from TCAT Elizabethton will compete in SkillsUSA national competition in Louisville, Ky, June 20-24.
More than 4,600 winners of SkillsUSA state competition events compete in 80 occupational and leadership skills areas in national competition. SkillsUSA programs help establish industry standards for job training in health, trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
