Birchfield Tire & Recapping is open for business.
The business was shut down briefly this week according to the owner due to issues with the payment of sales taxes.
On Monday, the Tennessee Department of Revenue posted a sign on the business stating it had been “seized” for non-payment of taxes.
Edward Birchfield, the owner of Birchfield Tire & Recapping, told the Elizabethton Star on Friday that his business had not been seized by the state but it had been temporarily shut down until the tax issue could be sorted.
“I was closed about an hour early on Monday and then for about two hours Monday morning,” Birchfield said.
The closure was due to sales tax revenue which had not been paid to the state, Birchfield said.
“It was a misunderstanding between me and my bookkeeper,” Birchfield said. “We owed them for about a month of taxes but is has been paid now.”
Once the issue was resolved, Birchfield said the business reopened on Tuesday and has been open ever since.
