Saturday, Aug. 27
The families of Mary Ellen Arnett and Charlie Hopson will have a reunion at 1 p.m. at St. John Free Will Baptist Church, Roan Mountain. Plates, cups, silverware and napkins will be furnished. Families are asked to bring a covered dish meal to be shared. For more information call 772-3704.
The Annual Finney Reunion for the descendants of Phillip and Catherine Greenwell Finney will be held at the Elk River Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, Hwy. 321, Butler. Those attending are asked to meet at 12 noon and bring a covered dish. For more information, call 768-3387.
The Summer Concert Series at Roan Mountain State Park presents Bandwagon Fallacy. All performances will be from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Park Amphitheater. In the event of bad weather, the concerts and other performances will be relocated from the amphitheater to Picnic Shelter 3, which is located next to the park campground.
Watauga Valley Fife & Drum Corps — The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 & up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary; just come with a willingness to learn. Meet our volunteer coordinator John Large at the Sycamore Shoals Visitors Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you’re coming!

GriefShare grief recovery seminar and support group will meet at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Classroom B in Elizabethton each Sunday afternoon from 2 until 4 p.m., starting August 7 and going through November 13. Child care is not provided. GriefShare video sessions feature nationally recognized experts on grief recovery topics. Seminar sessions include “Living with Grief,” “The Journey of Grief,” “The Effects of Grief,” “Why?,” and “Stuck in Grief.” GriefShare is sponsored by Sycamore Shoals Hospital Spiritual Care Department and Grace Baptist Church. Carson Peters & Iron Mountain perform at a benefit concert for the Scalf family, who lost their home in a fire. The concert will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Burl Mast’s Red Barn, located at 1717 Sciota Road, Unicoi. Admission is a $5 donation. All proceeds go to help the Scalf family.
