Two local businesses are joining forces to help out a local child battling a rare disorder of the nervous system.
Chayse Andrews is the 12-year-old son of Greg and Kristal Andrews and the grandson of Sheila and Roger Woods, and Jim and Lena Andrews. Chayse was recently diagnosed with Alexander Disease. Also known as fibrinoid leukodystrophy, Alexander Disease is a progressive and fatal neurodegenerative disease. It is a rare genetic disorder and mostly affects infants and children, causing developmental delay and changes in physical characteristics.
Since being diagnosed, Chayse’s family has accumulated many medical expenses and has to make frequent trips to Vanderbilt Medical Center for treatment.
Off the Grid Adventures and Fish Springs Marina are teaming up to offer discounted activities at Watauga Lake with the proceeds going to assist Chayse and his family.
On Monday, Sept. 12, Off The Grid Adventures is offering a choice of paddle boarding, kayaking or canoeing from 6 p.m. until dusk at Fish Springs Marina for a cost of only $10.
In addition to the discounted activities, drawings for door prizes will be held.
