Two first grade teachers from East Side Elementary will present research-based practices for early readers to educators from around the region at the upcoming Educate 4 Success conference. It will be held at the Welmont Regional Center for the Performing Arts in Blountville on Sep. 30, and they will present at 3 p.m.
Ms. Rachel Campbell and Mrs. Kristen Cannon, will share activities and strategies in their presentation titled Phonics Fun: Research-Based Practices for Emergent/Early Readers. It will address the positive impact of phonics instruction in the primary classroom using resources like word sorts, word families and other practical strategies. They will also teach how to engage students in whole and small group instruction time.
“We have learned so much from teachers at conferences like this, so we wanted to share what works for us and hopefully give others some new strategies to take back to their students,” Cannon said.
Their presentation is based off of research and practices that have been successful in their classrooms. Cannon said they applied to speak and were selected from a pool of applicants around the region. They speculate they are the first Elizabethton teachers to speak at this conference. Tickets are sold out.
