This family portrait was taken in Stoney Creek in the 1950s and was submitted by a STAR reader for last year’s Carter County Heritage edition. The STAR is asking readers to once again submit their old photographs, memorabilia, stories and memories for the commemorative keepsake edition.

A community and its history are shaped by the people who live there.
On Oct. 28, the Elizabethton Star will publish a special commemorative edition that focuses on the history, beauty and individuals who have made Carter County such a special place.
This year, Carter County Heritage will be released as a keepsake tabloid edition
There are so many amazing and interesting stories from here in Carter County and we are asking for you to help us tell those stories. We need old photographs, drawings, letters, memorabilia and stories — anything that helps tell the story of our community’s past. All materials will be returned.
We are also inviting our readers to share their memories with us. Do you have a favorite memory of downtown? Or perhaps a story about a favorite teacher? A fond recollection of a family or community event? Whatever the memory, we are asking you to share it and tell the story.
The deadline to submit a photo, story or other items is Oct. 20.
Scanned items, digital copies of items or memories and stories can be e-mailed to news@elizabethton.com. Items, photographs and stories can also be brought to our office located at 300 N. Sycamore St. Stories and memories can be submitted by mail to our office and marked Attention: Newsroom – Heritage.
Help us create a treasure to be enjoyed for generations to come by preserving the stories of our community.
