Saturday, Oct. 22
The Upper and Lower Gap Creek Reunion will be held at 1 p.m. at Happy Valley High School. Those attending are asked to bring snacks, photos and memorabilia. For more information, call 423-588-0402 or 423-571-5057.
Hampton Christian Church will hold its Annual Fall Festival from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. There will be homemade cakes, pies, bread and candies, canned goods, and fall and Christmas crafts. Food items available include hot dogs, chips, nachos and cheese, and drinks. Bring your children and join everyone for fun and games. Hampton Christian Church is located at 810 Deerfield Lane, Hampton, across from the Hampton High School baseball field.
A Security Guard Class will be held at 135 Keenburg Road, Elizabethton beginning at 8 a.m. The class will cover unarmed/armed guard and non-lethal weapons. The enrollment is offered to anyone who would like to get a guard license.
Watauga Valley Fife & Drum Corps — From 10 a.m. until Noon. The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 and up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary, just come with a willingness to learn. Meet volunteer coordinator at John Large at the Sycamore Shoals Visitor’s Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you are coming.
Bird Walks with the Lee & Lois Herndon TOS Chapter — Meet with other birders and naturalists at Sycamore Shoals State Park at 8 a.m. for a morning of birding during the migratory season.

Old Time Music Jam — Led by Art Lang from 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Park. Enjoy the rich musical traditions of our region each month. Old time musicians of all levels are welcome. Don’t play an instrument? Come on over, kick back and enjoy the tunes!

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will meet at First Baptist Church, 212 East F St., Elizabethton. Weigh-in begins at 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. Scary Stories at Fort Watauga — Strange things happen on All Hallows Eve, especially at an old fort by the river. Bring the family and join us for tales of woe and terror, the weird and the macabre, with a touch of wit thrown in for good measure. Don’t be afraid, Fort Watauga at Sycamore Shoals State Park isn’t haunted… we think. Event begins at 7:30 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring camp chairs or blankets to sit on.

Historic Ghost Walks of Elizabethton — Join the Front Porch Storytellers for a walking tour of downtown Elizabethton featuring local lore and legends. Tour begins at 7:30 p.m. at Sugar Love Bakery & Cafe inside the historic Bonnie Kate Theater and the event lasts about 90 minutes. Tickets are $12 for adults; $11 for seniors age 60 and older; $10 for veterans and children age 17 and under. Groups of 10 or more in a single party can take part for $10 per person. Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling 423-542-9360.

The descendants of Dayton Campbell will have a family reunion at the Unaka Baptist Church from 2 until 4 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring desserts and any photos you may have. Country Breakfast will be held at Dashiell Lodge in Elizabethton from 7 a.m. to 10:00a.m. Everyone is invited to join in good food, consist of sausage, ham, eggs, pancakes, gravy and biscuits, juice and coffee. Adults $5.00.

Monday, Nov. 7
Honeybee Meeting — The first of a series of meetings for people who keep honeybees or are interested in them will be held once a month in Elizabethton over the winter. The meetings are meant to be informal and sociable get-togethers to share information, tell stories and learn from each other about the bees. There may be some short talks by beekeepers, as well as videos. The meetings will be held at the Elizabethton Public Library, 201 North Sycamore St., from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Parking is on the street, or in the parking lot across the street and behind the library. All are welcomed, but space is limited, so come a little early to get a seat. Bring a small snack item to share, if you wish. For more information, call 543-1568.

The Hampton High School Class of 1967 will have an informal social at 2 p.m. at the Harbor House restaurant on N. Roan Street in Johnson City. There will be yearbooks from 1950, 1949, 1946 and 1941 for display and review. If any questions, contact David Horton at 423-647-1740.
Monday, Nov. 21
Alzheimers Tennessee Caregiver Support Group will meet at noon at Sycamore Springs Senior Living Center at 1504 W. Elk Ave. for caregivers of friends or relatives suffering from Alzheimers or another form of dementia. Attending the support group can help people to feel less isolated and to make connections with others facing similar challenges.
