Government closings announced for New Year’s holiday

Several government offices and other agencies will have schedule changes over the next few days due to the New Year’s holiday.
Carter County government offices, including the Courthouse and the Justice Center, will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, in observance of New Year’s Day.
Carter County Clerk’s Mary Gouge’s Office, which is typically open a half-day on Saturdays, will also be closed this Saturday, Dec. 31, as part of the holiday.
The Carter County Landfill, Recycling Center and Convenience Centers located in Roan Mountain and Elk Mills will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2. The landfill and the convenience centers in Roan Mountain and Elk Mills will be open on Saturday, Dec. 31, for normal weekend business hours. The landfill will be open from 8 a.m. until Noon, the Roan Mountain Convenience Center from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and the Elk Mills Convenience Center from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
While county government offices will be closed on Monday, the Carter County School System will be in operation as students return to classes from their Christmas break on Monday, Jan. 2.
All City of Elizabethton offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 2. The Elizabethton City Schools system will host staff professional development days on Monday, Jan. 2, and Tuesday, Jan. 3, with students returning from their Winter break on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
The Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 31, and on Monday, Jan. 2, in observance of the New Year’s holiday. The library is always closed on Sundays.
Sycamore Shoals State Park and it’s museum and visitor’s center will be open on Saturday, Dec. 31, and Sunday, Jan. 1. The park is typically closed on Mondays each week and will also be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 3, to observe the New Year’s holiday.
