Lady Bulldogs speed past Happy Valley

Once the Lady Bulldogs got rolling inside VanHuss/White Gym Thursday, they didn’t look back as they rallied out to 63-39 win over Happy Valley.
“Everything seemed to come together a little bit better tonight,” said Hampton head coach Bud Hazelwood. “It was a real good win for us. It was one of the better wins that we have had this year.
“This is the time of year to be playing,” Hazelwood added. “Happy Valley has handled us four out of the last six times. But it is time to start playing ball with the district tournament coming up.”
Hampton’s Shyanne Tuelle and Alexus Grubbs each totaled 17 points a piece as they led the Lady ‘Dogs in scoring.
In the first period, Hampton held a 6-5 lead with 3:50 left in the quarter, before Lady Bulldog Megan Garland nailed back-to-back buckets to spark a 12-point run by the Lady Bulldogs. During the drive, Tuelle and Grubbs knocked down consecutive 3-pointers to help Hampton work out to a 16-5 lead heading into the second period.
Hampton kept up its pace in the second quarter as the Lady Bulldogs outscored Happy Valley 20-13, with Grubbs posting seven points in the frame. Garland had five points in the quarter, while teammate Hope Bridgeman chipped in four. Happy Valley’s Adrienne Henegar, Shayln Whitson, and Haley Green all posted four points in the quarter to help out the Lady Warriors’ cause. Heading into the half, the Lady Bulldogs led 31-18.
The third quarter saw Hampton conducted a 15-2 rally during final six minutes of the period to take a 51-25 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the final quarter, Happy Valley outpaced Hampton 13-9, with Whitson posting six points in the period. Lady Warrior Makayla Fraizer added four points to the Happy Valley’s total in the fourth quarter.
Happy Valley was led in scoring by Whitson, who finished with 11 points on the night.
For Hampton, Garland finished with 11 points, while Kinzey Hill chipped in eight.
Friday night, the Lady Warriors host Unicoi, before Hampton host the Lady Blue Devils on Saturday.
