Members of the Roan Mountain AT Community Advisory Committee recently honored an iconic restaurant in the community for its support of the effort to be designated as an AT Community.
On Saturday, officials with the Roan Mountain AT Community Advisory Committee gathered with local leaders and residents at Bob’s Dairyland to celebrate the accomplishment by the restaurant and its staff.
This announcement comes after Roan Mountain’s recent designation as an AT Community by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Benefits for Bob’s Dairyland and any future business that becomes an AT Community Supporter include more visibility through various Appalachian Trail Conservancy channels, like the website, e-newsletter and social media channels as well as discounted advertising rates in the “A.T. Journeys Magazine.”
Bob’s Dairyland is the landmark business most associated with Roan Mountain among most AT hikers. The Roan Mountain AT Community Advisory Committee approved the business as an AT Community Supporter based on their participation in the AT Community application process as well as supporting the committee in planning upcoming events to celebrate the AT Community designation.
The Roan Mountain AT Community Advisory Committee is currently planning two events to celebrate the recent designation. Appalachian Trail Conservancy leaders, community leaders, and state representatives will gather at Roan Mountain Community Park to make the designation official on April 24 beginning at 1:30 p.m. Signage provided by the ATC will also be unveiled. The committee is also planning a trail festival the weekend of May 6. More designation and celebration event details will be announced in coming weeks.
