City man arrested in child rape case

Police arrested an Elizabethton man on Wednesday after the Grand Jury indicted him on a charge of rape of a child.
On Wednesday morning, officers of the Elizabethton Police Department arrested William David Blevins, 31, of Johnson City, on the indictment charging him with one count of rape of a child.
According to the indictment, Blevins is accused of raping a child “more than 3 years of age but less than 13 years of age” sometime between Jan. 2, 2016, and Feb. 28, 2016.
Under state law, rape of a child is designated as a “Class A” felony.
Following his arrest, Blevins was booked into the Carter County Detention Center where he remains held under a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Carter County Criminal Court on April 6.
