Hampton and Cloudland would tie things up twice before the Bulldogs found the answer in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-3 win.
With the game knotted up at 3-all, Hampton’s Brett Deaton fired a line drive to left field for a 2-RBI single, giving the Bulldogs a 5-3 lead. Earlier in the fifth, as Cloudland led 3-1, Hampton’s David Fleenor blasted a 2-RBI single to things up.
In the first inning, Hampton got on board as Wyatt Lyons came in off a sacrifice fly by teammate Dru Owens.
The Highlanders got on the board in the fourth as Cloudland’s Mark Tester crossed the plate to bring the game to a 1-all tie.
The Highlanders took the lead in the top of the fifth inning as Dakota Johnson came home during a wild pitch and a run scored off a ground out to first by Brinkley Mull to give Cloudland a short lived 3-1 edge.
Today, the Bulldogs will travel to Cloudland to continue the series.
