With five runs in the second inning, the Happy Valley Warriors took off and never looked back as they topped Sullivan East, 10-1, in league play Monday.
Coming into the bottom of the second during Monday’s game, the teams were tied at 1-1. The Warriors, however, would post five runs in the second to take the lead and never relinquish it. Things got rolling when Happy Valley’s Dylan Townsend scored from second on a double from Hunter Jones. Townsend’s score was followed by Warriors Taylor Hurley netting Jones with a RBI single. Tyler Hurley hit a 2-RBI single to put the Warriors up 5-1 before Sage Haun blasted a RBI double to give Happy Valley a 6-1 coming out of the second.
In the bottom of the fourth, Tyler Hurley moved the Warriors lead on out to six runs with a RBI single.
The Warriors posted three more runs in the bottom of the six as Taylor Hurley and Dustun Sams scored off an error in left field. Earlier in the inning, Taylor Hurley scored on a wild pitch.
The Warriors finished with 10 hits as Sams went 3-of-4 with 2 RBIs, and Tyler Hurley 2-of-4 with 3 RBIs.
Sams pitched five innings for the Warriors and picked up the win as he recorded seven strikeouts against one walk while allowing seven hits and one run. Happy Valley’s Tyler Stansberry worked relief for two innings while only allowing two hits.
The Warriors will head to Daniel Boone on Thursday and University High on Friday.
