Lady Cyclones roll in second to top Happy Valley

After a ten-run second inning, the Lady Cyclones sped past Happy Valley for a 19-4 Three Rivers Conference victory Wednesday at Elizabethton High School.
The Lady Warriors jumped ahead early Wednesday as they posted three runs in the first frame. Happy Valley’s Lillie Runningcrane, with a 2-RBI double, brought in both Emily Whitaker and Kaitlyn Roberts, who had reached on a triple to start the game. Runningcrane would score off a RBI single from Happy Valley’s Mary Hughes to give her team an early 3-0 lead.
The Lady Cyclones answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame with EHS’s Allison Riddle smacking a 2-RBI double to put EHS up 4-0.
EHS really got going in the second frame as they posted ten runs. The rally was highlighted by a three-run by Lady Cyclone Lauren Brickey out of centerfield.
In the third, the Lady Cyclone posted five more runs with EHS’s Maci West punctuating the frame with a two-run homer out of left field.
The last run of the game came in the fourth when Happy Valley’s Emily Whitaker hit a double to score Claire Johnson.
At the plate, Brickey led the way for the Lady Cyclones as she went 3-of-3 with four RBIs, two doubles, and a home run. Riddle also went 3-of-3 with two RBIs and a double. EHS’s Jessica Cunningham finished the game with three hits and a RBI.
For Happy Valley, Roberts finished the game with two hits and a triple. Runningcrane closed things out with one hit and two RBIs.
At the plate, Brickey picked up the win as she tossed for three innings with no hits against and two strikeouts.
