Nicotine Anonymous, a 12-Step Recovery Program of Mutual Support for those who want to stop smoking or live free of nicotine in any form, will meet at 7 p.m. at the Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition Youth Opportunity Center, 546 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton. There are no dues or fees. You only need to bring a desire to stop using nicotine. Contact Thad at 423-306-3866 for more information.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will meet at First Baptist Church, 212 East F St., Elizabethton. Weigh-in begins at 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. The Liberty Spinners — from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. This gathering of spinners and fiber artists is open to anyone interested in the art of spinning. Join us at 9:30 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month (April to November).

Carter County Proud will meet at 6 p.m. at Smoke House BBQ Company in Elizabethton to discuss upcoming cleanup initiatives in the county.

Friday, April 14

The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. The Rambling Rose Band will provide music. Those attending the dances are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge. The club holds dances the second and fourth Friday nights of each month. All seniors are welcome.

Saturday, April 15

Rocky Top Gun Permit School will offer a handgun carry permit class at 135 Keenburg Road, Elizabethton, starting at 8 a.m. Ken Potter, a veteran law enforcement officer, is the instructor for the class. Rocky Top is one of the first schools to offer permit training and has been teaching the program since 1997. Cost of the class is $55. You will need to bring your weapon and 50 rounds of ammo. A Country Breakfast will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy good food and great fellowship. The breakfasts, which are held every third Saturday of each month, consist of bacon, fresh ground sausage, tenderloin, eggs, pancakes, gravy and biscuits, cinnamon apples and more. Cost is by donation. The church is located at 878 Highway 81N, about five miles from downtown Jonesborough.

Watauga Valley Fife and Drums — from 10 a.m. until noon. The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 & up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary; just come with a willingness to learn. Meet our volunteer coordinator John Large at the Sycamore Shoals Visitors Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you’re coming!

Landscape Seminar & Plant Auction — from 9 a.m. until noon at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. An exciting array of unusual ornamental and native perennials, trees and shrubs will be auctioned during this event. A great opportunity to add new species to your landscape! Sponsored by The UT Extension Service, East Tennessee Nursery Association, and the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce.

The Rotary Club of Elizabethton will hold its 46th Annual Bean Dinner at the T.A. Dugger Junior High Cafeteria, West E Street at Holly Lane. Dinner will be served from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person and may be purchased at the door or from club members or T.A. Dugger Jr. High students. Friday, April 21

First United Methodist Preschool will have pre-registration at 10 a.m. in the church fellowship hall. This registration is for children ages 3-5. The child must be three years old on or before August 15 to be registered. A fee of $20 must be paid at this time for those students who obtain placement in the preschool for next fall. A Business Showcase to benefit Graham’s Foundation will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the First Freewill Baptist Church, 706 1st St., Elizabethton. Come shop til you drop and support Graham’s Foundation, which provides support for preemies and their families. Many local vendors will be available for the public to shop. Basketry – Basil and Thyme — Join instructor Candy Alexander from 9 a.m .until 4 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. Create a traditional Appalachian herb basket with a wrapped handle. Learn to weave a God’s Eye. A variety of woven patterns will be offered for the hoop.  Dimensions: 12” rnd. x 10” high.  Bring garden or kitchen shears, an old hand towel, pencil, small measuring tape, small spray bottle of water, and strong clothespins. The cost of the program is $28.

Community Plant Exchange — from 9 until 10 a.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. The front parking lot will be bustling this morning!  Bring cuttings and potted outdoor and indoor plants, to exchange for species you don’t have — a fun way to meet other gardeners and increase your collection.
