A Carter County elementary school was placed on lockdown Monday and students were later sent home as a result of a situation that occurred off of the school’s campus.
On Tuesday morning, Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford and Director of Carter County Schools Dr. Kevin Ward released a joint statement about the incident.
“Yesterday at approximately 2:30 p.m. the decision was made to send the students at Central Elementary School home,” the statement said. “This was due to an off campus domestic situation.”
“At no time was anyone at the school in any danger, however, out of an abundance of caution the school was placed on a soft lockdown,” the statement continued. “The domestic situation has since been resolved.”
