On Thursday afternoon following a two-day trial, a Carter County jury convicted a woman on charges she sexually abused her son.

The jury found Amber Nicole Ray, 27, of Johnson City, guilty on one count each of rape of a child and incest. The offense allegedly occurred between August 2012 and January 2013 while Ray was living in Elizabethton and the victim was 5 years old at that time.

Criminal Court Judge Stacy Street scheduled a sentencing hearing for Ray on July 27.

Under state law, rape of a child is categorized as a “Class A Felony, “ and Ray faces a sentence of 15-60 years for that conviction. State law categorizes incest as a “Class C Felony, “ and Ray faces a sentence of 3-15 years for that conviction.

Following these convictions, state law requires that Ray registers as a sex offender and be placed on the state’s Sex Offender Registry.
