With her freshman season in the books, it seems Elizabethton tennis phenom Danielle Vines is already making a name for herself at Furman University.
Last week, the Lady Paladin was named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year. Vines recorded an 18-5 singles mark while going 7-0 in conference play. Vines was also selected to the all-conference first team in singles and, along with partner Katty Weymouth, was picked to the all-conference first team in doubles.
Joining Vines in conference accolades is Furman’s Ansley Speaks who was selected as the 2017 SoCon Women’s Tennis Player of the Year. Furman women’s Adam Herendeen was named Coach of the Year.
The Lady Paladins were 23-5 in the regular season and 7-0 in conference play. This past Sunday, Furman topped ETSU 4-2 to win the 2017 SoCon Championship. Vines would clinch the winning point as she topped ETSU’s Alory Pereira , 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, in singles.
At Elizabethton, Vines was unstoppable as she recorded three straight Class A/AA state titles her sophomore, junior and senior years.
