Nicotine Anonymous, a 12-Step Recovery Program of Mutual Support for those who want to stop smoking or live free of nicotine in any form, will meet at 7 p.m. at the Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition Youth Opportunity Center, 546 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton. There are no dues or fees. You only need to bring a desire to stop using nicotine. Contact Thad at 423-306-3866 for more information.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will meet at First Baptist Church, 212 East F St., Elizabethton. Weigh-in begins at 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. The Johnson City United Auto Workers Retirees will hold their monthly meeting at 10 a.m. at the Pipefitters Union Hall, 655 Watauga Road, Watauga. All UAW retirees are invited to attend, bring their spouses or friends and join the group for this meeting. For local information, call 727-7393, 772-4777 or 743-8778.

The monthly Widow/Widower’s Dutch Treat Lunch Get Together, sponsored by Tetrick Funeral Home, Silver Angels Home Care Specialists and Hathaway-Percy Funeral & Cremation Services, will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Fatz Cafe in Elizabethton. Provide for your lunch from the menu and Silver Angels Home Care Specialists will treat you to a dessert. Tetrick’s provides door prizes and always has a small take home token for those attending. If you have lost a spouse, please join us. Feel free to bring a friend or friends with you. Any feedback on how we can better serve you will be welcome. The Liberty Spinners will meet from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. This gathering of spinners and fiber artists is open to anyone interested in the art of spinning. Join us at 9:30 a.m. on the 2nd Tuesday of each month (April to November).

The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club’s dance has been canceled. The next dance will be held on May 26. The club holds dances the second and fourth Friday nights of each month. All seniors are welcome.

Saturday, May 13

English Country Dancing with Bob Thompson from 1-5 p.m. at The Pine Room at the Wellness Center behind Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Guest dance instructor Bob Thompson will lead the group in English country dancing focusing on 4 primary dance routines from the period. Light refreshments will be served. Cost: $7 at the door. $6 for members of Friends of Sycamore Shoals.

Watauga Valley Fife and Drums from 10 a.m.-noon. The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 & up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary; just come with a willingness to learn. Meet our volunteer coordinator John Large at the Sycamore Shoals Visitors Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you’re coming!

Bird Walk with the Lee & Lois Herndon TOS Chapter at 8 a.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. Meet other birders and naturalists at Sycamore Shoals for a morning of birding during the migratory season.

Learn to Play the Pennywhistle from 10 a.m.-noon at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park with instructor Martha Egan. Cost: $25 (includes Clarke or Walton  pennywhistle in Key of D, book, and CD). Cost is $15 if you bring your own instrument. Popular in the British Isles in the 1800’s, this class includes the fundamentals of holding and sounding your pennywhistle, learning the first notes, and playing a song — or come and advance the skills you already possess. Music and other supplemental materials provided.

23rd Annual Siege at Fort Watauga from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. It is the summer of 1776 and the Watauga settlement is at war. Join us as 200 colonial and Native reenactors present this dramatic retelling of the Cherokee attack brought on the settlers of the Watauga valley. Visit the living history camps, shop with period vendors, and witness battle re-enactments both days. Hear the rattle of muskets, smell the campfire smoke and see history come to life at the Siege of Fort Watauga. Contact the park for a detailed schedule.
