The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones are still rolling.
Monday night, the Lady Cyclones hosted Greeneville for a Region 1-AA tournament contest, and when the final out was made, EHS had won 6-3.
The win sets up another showdown between the Lady Cyclones and Unicoi when the Lady Blue Devils come calling for the region championship Wednesday at EHS.
“We are going to go back to work tomorrow and get ready for them,” Hardin said. “Hopefully, we are ready and show up to play.”
It was another day at the office for Elizabethton pitcher Lauren Brickey, who worked seven innings from the circle. Brickey was handing out strikes like candy as she retired nine batters. She finished the night with six hits and two walks against her.
“She pitched a great game,” said EHS coach Ken Hardin. “I was really proud of the way she threw. She was all over the plate today. Did her job, and the defense backed her up.”
The biggest moment of the night came in the bottom of the fourth when Elizabethton right fielder Jessica Cunningham blasted a 3-run homer to score both Maci Herrmann and Maci West giving the Lady Cyclones a 6-2 lead.
“I went up there knowing that I needed to get a hit,” said Cunnigham. “I was looking for a base hit. As soon as it went off the bat, I knew.”
The Lady Cyclones didn’t waste time getting on the scoreboard Monday. In the bottom of the first inning, Herrmann, who had reached on a single before stealing her way to third, was brought to the house by a single from West, giving the EHS a quick 1-0 edge.
Elizabethton kept things moving in the second with Lady Cyclone Allison Riddle scoring off an error before Herrmann score once again by the bat of West who had smacked an RBI double. West finished the night with two hits and two RBIs.
After scoring two in the top of the third, the Lady Greene Devils would post one more run in the fifth inning.
The Lady Cyclones had ten hits on the night with Jessica Cunningham going 3-of-4 with three RBIs.
