Liberty: The Saga of Sycamore Shoals — Tennessee’s official outdoor drama, presented by local performers against the backdrop of Fort Watauga. Performances begin nightly at 7:30 PM. Doors open at 6:00 PM. Concession stand opens at 6:30 PM. General admission tickets range from Free for Children 5 and under; to $6.00 for Students 6 to 17 years; $11.00 for Seniors 55 and up; and $14.00 for Adults. Members of Friends of Sycamore Shoals may attend the drama any night for a reduced adult/senior admission price of $7.00. The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. The Rambling Rose Band will provide music. Those attending the dances are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge. The club holds dances the second and fourth Friday nights of each month. All seniors are welcome.

The Cloudland Band Boosters will host a Meet and Greet at 6 p.m. This is an opportunity for all 2017-18 school year band students and parents to meet the new Band Director. The event will be held behind the Roan Mountain Post Office. Attendance is mandatory for all marching band students.

The Hampton High School Class of 1966 will meet at Beef ‘O’ Brady’s in Elizabethton at 6 p.m.

The Ward Reunion will be held at 11 a.m. at Friendship Freewill Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 472 Highway 321, next to the car wash in Hampton. Please bring a covered dish. Drinks will be furnished. All family and friends are invited. For more information, call 725-3571 or 768-2252.

Watauga Valley Fife and Drums from 10 a.m. until noon. The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications, and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 & up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary; just come with a willingness to learn. Meet our volunteer coordinator John Large at the Sycamore Shoals Visitors Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you’re coming!

Summer Concert Series: Bandwagon Fallacy — 7:30-8:30 PM at the Amphitheater at Roan Mountain State Park. This groovy band hails from just over the mountain in Buladean, NC. Bandwagon Fallacy rocks the house with old-time favorites and touching originals from classic rock, country, folk, and soul. Concerts will be relocated to Picnic Shelter 3 in the Campground in case of bad weather. FREE ADMISSION! Donations accepted.

Nicotine Anonymous, a 12-Step Recovery Program of Mutual Support for those who want to stop smoking or live free of nicotine in any form, will meet at 7 p.m. at the Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition Youth Opportunity Center, 546 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton. This eclectic-acoustic duo utilizes a wide array of instruments and vocal harmonies to create feel-good music, including classic and contemporary favorites. Saturday, August 5

The Elizabethton Back-2-School Bash will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Elizabethton High School’s Citizens Bank Stadium. The event is free and open to all. 1,000 backpacks full of school supplies will be given away, and there will be 25+ health and education partners on site. There will also be 10 inflatables, two obstacle courses, lunch and other activities on site. The event is planned by Elizabethton City Schools, East River Park Christian Church, Elizabethton Police Department and Carter County Health Department and is brought to you by nearly 50 community sponsors including East River Park Christian Church, Calvary Baptist Church and Academy Sports & Outdoors.

The descendants of Emmert Doc and Wilda Deloach will have their annual reunion at the home of Ray and Brenda Loveless. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish. For more information, call Gaye Loveless at 542-8129.
