Saturday, July 29
8:00 AM to 4:30 PM – Xtreme Roan Adventures Youth Rally 2017 – Children ages four and up enjoy a fun-filled day of nature talks, hikes, live animal exhibits, and lunch. Sponsored by the Friends of Roan Mountain. ****pre-registration required.****
10:00 AM – Peg Leg Mine History Hike – Are you ready for a moderate 1 mile morning hike? Let’s hike to the mine and learn about its history. We will also enjoy the beauty of Roan Mountain and all of its flora and fauna. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Meet SIR Bailey at the Visitor’s Center. All ages welcome.
11:30 AM – Arrowhead Demo at the Farmstead – Join SIR Chloe on the Farmstead porch to learn about traditional arrowheads and to watch a live demonstration.
12:30 PM – Volunteer Clean-up – Join park visitors and other members of the community to help take care of the Doe River. We will be picking up litter along the river bank starting at the Campstore. Join us! All gloves, bags, and materials will be provided. Please bring water shoes and water bottles.
2:00 PM – Fred Behrend Hike – Enjoy the afternoon with a moderate 2 mile hike along the Doe River. Join SIR Chloe at the Camp Store and be ready to hike. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
3:30 PM – Salamander Search – Wanting to learn more about our amphibious park residents? Meet SIR Chloe at Picnic Shelter #1 to go into the Doe River for a Salamander Search. Be sure to wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting wet!
7:30 PM – Summer Concert Series: Bandwagon Fallacy – Bandwagon Fallacy rocks the house with old-time favorites and touching originals from classic rock, country, folk and soul. This groovy band hails from just over the mountain in Buladean, NC. Until 8:30 PM at the Park Amphitheater, relocated to Picnic Shelter 3 in the Campground in case of bad weather. FREE ADMISSION! Donations encouraged.
8:00 PM – Fire Starting – Think you know the best and safest way to start a campfire? We will learn about the best ways to set up a fire and safety measures when making your own fire pit. Meet SIR Bailey at the Campground Campfire Ring to test your skills and start a fire for s’mores later tonight!
9:00 PM – Campground Campfire – Meet SIRs Bailey and Chloe at the Campground Fire Ring for riddles, stories, and s’mores. Don’t forget to bring a flashlight for heading back to your campsite after dark.
Sunday, July 30
10:00 AM – Wildlife Sketching – Come capture the beauty of nature using a pencil and paper. Meet SIR Chloe at Picnic Shelter 3 to practice your sketching skills and learn about some of the nature of Roan Mountain.
11:00 AM – Nature BINGO! – Come out and hike the Tom Gray Trail while searching for plants, critters, and landmarks. Get 5 in a row to win nature BINGO! Meet SIR Bailey at the Tom Gray Trailhead ready to hike. Please wear hiking shoes and bring water for this 1/2 mile moderate hike.

7:00 PM — The Citizens Club will meet at the Roan Mountain State Park Conference Center.
Tuesday, August 15
6:30 PM — BCHET Out Post 3, which is Roan Mountain and Elizabethton, and NC, will meet at the Highlander BBQ. Food will be served.
Saturday, August 15
10:00 AM — BCHET Trail Rides. Riders are to meet at the Shell Creek Christian Church on 19E.
