The 55th Annual Fall Naturalist’s Rally — The 55th annual fall gathering of nature enthusiasts of all stripes! Fellowship over dinner, enjoy informative lectures, explore trails on guided hikes and bird watching excursions, etc. Led by Friends of Roan Mountain. 10 a.m. — Open Mic

9 a.m. – 12 noon — Tennessee State Parks will host a Girls Outdoors (GO!) Workshop in Carter County at Roan Mountain State Park. The GO! Workshop aims to provide girls ages 12-15 with an authentic experience in the great outdoors, an opportunity to learn about women working in the science and conservation fields, and to foster a strong foundation in the natural world. The workshop will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30,  and go until approximately 12 noon Sunday, Oct. 1. Meet at Group Camp.

Workshop activities will include a wilderness safety lesson, camping, a creek stomp, archery, astronomy, nature hikes, and a stewardship project. Participants will also get to conduct hands-on science activities and have fun adventures to create lifelong memories. The registration fee is $35 per person which includes all meals. Overnight accommodations will be tent camping; tents, sleeping pads and sleeping bags can be provided if needed. The registration deadline for this workshop is Sept. 25, and refunds will be provided for cancellations up to Sept. 26.

Saturday, September 30

9 a.m. — Farmers Market at Roan Mountain Community Park

10 a.m. — Open Mic

3:30 – 5 p.m. — National Public Lands Day at Roan Mountain — Please meet at Park Headquarters at 3:15 p.m. for orientation and paperwork. Be prepared to drive to work site (TBD). Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, sturdy shoes or boots, work gloves and bring drinking water. It is recommended that you dress in layers, bring a jacket, and wear hat/sunscreen. We will be working on a park stewardship project such as weed removal, trail maintenance, or litter pick-up. Be prepared to work until 5 p.m. This project is for participants ages 12 and up and is considered moderately strenuous.

Saturday, October 7

9 a.m. — Farmers Market at Roan Mountain Community Park

10 a.m. — Open Mic

8 a.m. – 12 noon — Chili Cook-Off 2017 — Cook up a pot of your secret recipe and compete for prizes, or just come sample the chefs’ creations! Everyone is welcome to kick-off the fall season with food, fun and fellowship. Pre-register at Park Headquarters or Camp Store to secure your spot. Meet at Picnic Shelter 3.

Saturday, October 14

9 a.m. — Farmers Market at Roan Mountain Community Park

10 a.m. — Open Mic

1 p.m. – 4 p.m. — Autumn Harvest 2017 — Enjoy the beautiful fall foliage at Roan Mountain and celebrate autumn at the park’s annual harvest festival with traditional crafts, food and entertainment. At the Park Visitors’ Center.

Saturday, November 4

9 a.m. — Farmers Market at Roan Mountain Community Park

10 a.m. — Open Mic

11 a.m. — Roan Mountain 10K — Compete with runners from across the state as part of the Tennessee Running Tour. This certified 6.2 mile course is an all road (no trail!) race starting at 11 a.m. from the Campground. Day-of-race registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Picnic Shelter 3 in the RMSP Campground. Runners take off from the Start Line at 11 a.m. $22 pre-registration fee with T-shirt, $10 pre-registration without T-shirt. Pre-registration closes Thursday, Oct. 26.  No T-shirts available for day-of-race registration. Registration fees are non-refundable.

Saturday, November 11

1 p.m. – 3 p.m. — Old Time Yule — Roan Mountain State Park ends the year’s events with an old-fashioned holiday celebration at the Miller Farmstead. Step back in time and experience how Christmas was celebrated years ago with traditional music and tasty treats.
