Scary Stories at Fort Watauga — 7:30 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. Strange things happen around All Hallows Eve, especially at an old fort by the river. Bring the family and join us for tales of woe and terror, the weird and macabre, with a touch of wit thrown in for good measure. Don’t be afraid, Fort Watauga at Sycamore Shoals isn’t haunted… we think!

The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. The Rambling Rose Band will provide music. Those attending the dances are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge. The club holds dances the second and fourth Friday nights of each month. All seniors are welcome.

Dashiell Lodge will host a “BBQ and Beans” dinner from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at their Elizabethton facility near the Carter County Election Commission building. Friday’s event is hosted by The Eastern Star and Free and Accepted Masons of Dashiell Lodge. Attendees can purchase a plate for $8, which includes barbecue, beans, coleslaw, a dessert and drink. To-go plates will also be available. Proceeds from the event will benefit a variety of projects underway in Elizabethton and Carter County, including CHIP.

A Country Steak Dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church. Everyone is invited to come and bring your friends and neighbors to enjoy great fellowship at the best Friday evening dinner experience in the area. The dinner will consist of country fried steak, vegetables, bread, drink, and dessert. Cost is by donation (minimum $8 adult and $3 kids 12 & under). Eat-in or take-out, no preorders. The dinner will be prepared and served by the Fairview Men’s Group to support 2017 ministries. The church is located at 878 Highway 81N, about five miles from downtown Jonesborough going towards Fall Branch.

Handmade Journals from 10 a.m. until noon at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. Join instructor Margaret Crouch to make your own book. These little journals can be anything you like — a unique sketchbook, a special diary, a baby shower keepsake. We’ll use professional book-board and a variety of cover papers. The finished book is 5” by 6½” and has 20 pages. The Coptic stitch binding means the book lies flat when open. Cost $25 covers all materials and tools EXCEPT — bring an awl if you have one. We’ll use it to make holes in the covers and the inside pages.

Walking in Frontier Footsteps After Thanksgiving Day Hike. Join Ranger Jason Davis at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park at 4 p.m. for a special guided interpretive walk through the grounds of the park and along portions of the walking path on Friday, Nov. 24. Discover the historical events that took place surrounding Sycamore Shoals and their significance to the formation of our State and Country. Dress appropriately for the weather as we will be taking a casual stroll on the walking path and through the park grounds. Meet in the picnic area beside the Visitor Center, at 4 pm. Please no pets. Hike is by reservation only and subject to cancellation due to significantly inclement weather. Reservations must be made by Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 3:30 p.m. EST.
