The Johnson City District  of Church Women United will meet at 11:30 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 522 W. Main St., Johnson City, for a salad luncheon. Everyone is asked to bring a salad. This will be a Human Rights Celebration. All women of all denominations are invited to attend. For more information call 423-202-0027.

Food for the Multitude will be hosting a Chili and Cornbread Dinner and Bake Sale between 5-7 p.m. at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elizabethton. This is the primary fundraiser for the organization which serves hot meals for the community every Saturday morning at The TLC Center in Elizabethton. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under and take-outs will be available. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Watauga Valley Fife and Drums from 10 a.m. until noon. The Fife & Drum Corps performs at historical events, dedications, and parades. This group is open to anyone ages 13 & up. Musical experience is welcome but not necessary; just come with a willingness to learn. Meet at the Sycamore Shoals Visitors Center. Lessons are free of charge, just call and let us know you’re coming!

Handmade Journals from 10 a.m. until noon at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. Join instructor Margaret Crouch to make your own book. These little journals can be anything you like — a unique sketchbook, a special diary, a baby shower keepsake. We’ll use professional book-board and a variety of cover papers. The finished book is 5” by 6½” and has 20 pages. The Coptic stitch binding means the book lies flat when open. Cost $25 covers all materials and tools EXCEPT — bring an awl if you have one. We’ll use it to make holes in the covers and the inside pages.

Butler Eastern Star will have a Thanksgiving lunch at Roans Creek Lodge from 12 until 2 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults, and children under 12, $3.50. Take-outs will be available.

Nicotine Anonymous, a 12-Step Recovery Program of Mutual Support for those who want to stop smoking or live free of nicotine in any form, will meet at 7 p.m. at the Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition Youth Opportunity Center, 546 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton. There are no dues or fees. You only need to bring a desire to stop using nicotine. Contact Thad at 423-306-3866 for more information.

The Elizabethton Senior Center, 428 East G St., will host a Veterans’ Breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. The menu will include biscuits/gravy, sausage, eggs, juice and coffee served by the Center staff. This is a day to honor and say thank you to all veterans for their service. Charge for guests that are not veterans is $5. For more information, call the Center at 423-543-4362.

Friday, November 10

The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. The Rambling Rose Band will provide music. Those attending the dances are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge. The club holds dances the second and fourth Friday nights of each month. All seniors are welcome.

Elizabethton Woman’s Club Annual Arts & Crafts Show — Join us from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Parks & Recreation Center, 300 W. Mill Street, for the annual arts and crafts show featuring a variety of crafters and artisans.

Saturday, November 11

Hampton Lodge No. 750, 509 First Ave., Hampton, will have their annual Thanksgiving Dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. The menu will include turkey and ham with two vegetables, roll, dessert and drink. Cost is a donation of $7 for adults and $4 for children. Carryouts will be available.

Walking in Frontier Footsteps After Thanksgiving Day Hike. Join Ranger Jason Davis at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park at 4 p.m. for a special guided interpretive walk through the grounds of the park and along portions of the walking path. Discover the historical events that took place surrounding Sycamore Shoals and their significance to the formation of our State and Country. Dress appropriately for the weather as we will be taking a casual stroll on the walking path and through the park grounds. Meet in the picnic area beside the Visitor Center at 4 p.m. Please no pets. Hike is by reservation only and subject to cancellation due to significantly inclement weather. Reservations must be made by Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 3:30 p.m. EST.
