1 p.m. — Shell Creek General Store, 8712 Hwy. 19E in Roan Mountain, will have its Christmas Open House beginning at 1 p.m. with free hot cocoa and sales throughout the store.

Monday, January 1

9 – 11 a.m. — First Day Hike — Start the New Year off right with Roan Mountain State Park’s First Hike of 2018. Join a Park Ranger for a winter morning hike along the frosty Doe River. Meet at Picnic Shelter 3 in the Campground. We will be hiking approximately 1 mile out and 1 mile back along the Tom Gray Trail. Please be prepared for cold, windy, and perhaps even snowy conditions as the average January temperature in Roan Mountain is 24 degrees! Following the hike, we will warm up with hot chocolate at Picnic Shelter 3.
