Last week, Unaka receiver Blake Isaacs caught a big postseason honor.
The Tennessee Sports Writer Association selected Isaacs for the Class A All-State Team as a receiver.
“We feel like even though some of our kids win ‘individual’ awards and honors, its a team award,” said Unaka head coach O’Brien Bennett. “It takes all 11 players executing for a play to work. The fact that we have a kid who had one of the best seasons in the state and probably one of the best by a sophomore ever speaks volumes, not only about him, but his teammates as well.
“Blake is a very talented kid who is just scratching the surface of his ability,” added Bennett. “He’s a weapon with the ball in his hands as he has the ability turn a quick throw into six points or beat a defense deep with his speed. He is only going to continue to get better as he learns the nuances of the game.
“Our wide receivers coach, Jake Jones, has done a great job with that position group this year as teams keyed more on Blake, other guys like Devon Jarrett, Reid Taylor, and Isaac Hill stepped up and took advantage of the additional opportunities. We are really excited to see what the future holds as we have all of them returning for next season.”
This past season, Isaacs recorded 1,080 receiving years on 59 catches while posting 12 touchdowns for the Rangers.
During Unaka’s season opener at North Greene, Isaacs received for 180 yards on just six catches while providing his team with two touchdowns. In the Rangers final game of the season against Sunbright in Stoney Creek, Isaacs caught for 178 yards on 13 reception while recording two touchdowns. Isaacs had four games this year where he caught for more than 100 yards.
