Garland nabs All-Tournament honors

Lady Ranger Lexi Garland had a big weekend.
The senior, over three games, racked up a total of 50 points for Unaka as the Lady Rangers went 2-1 during the Hall’s Sgt. York Christmas Invitational.
Garland’s performance nabbed her an All-Tournament selection along with a Player of the Game nod.
The Lady Rangers opened the tournament with a close 53-50 loss to Cherokee County. During that contest, Garland recorded 24 points for Unaka, while teammate Sarah Tipton had eight points and Sydney Marland and Myah Parlier both had six.
On day two of the tournament, the Lady Rangers got in the win column as they topped Knox Central 41-29 behind a 16-point performance from Garland. Parlier finished the game with 14 points while Markland picked up six.
The Lady Rangers’ last game of the tournament saw them top East Hickman 43-31. Garland led the Lady Rangers again with ten points while Unaka’s Sarah Tipton posted nine and Markland had eight. Markland would be selected as player of the game.
The Hampton Lady Bulldogs competed in the Cleveland Holiday Tournament where they went 1-2. In the first game, the Hampton fell to CAK by five points, before topping Watertown 68-46. In their final game of the tournament, the Lady Bulldogs lost 55-45 to Sequoyah High School.
The Bulldogs finished 2-1 during a holiday tournament at Harriman High School. In game one, the Hampton topped Coalfield 69-47 before falling 85-73. In the last game, Hampton defeated Heritage 56-45.
The Cyclones picked up a win at the King of the Smokies tournament in Pigeon Forge Saturday, defeating  Bethlehem 63-38. In that game, EHS was led by Adam Cornett with 18 points while Parker Hughes totaled 16. Hughes was also an All-Tournament selection.
