During Thursday’s meeting, Elizabethton City Council members approved a motion for a committee representing the city to negotiation a contract with Hampton Golf, a management firm out of Jasksonville, Florida, to manage the Elizabethton Golf Course. Hampton Golf was one of six prospects courted by the city. During the month of December, the committee narrowed the firms down to four.

The contract, once completed, will be brought before the council at a future meeting.

In other business, City Council approved a one-year contract extension for the Elizabethton Twins’ 2018 stay at Joe O’Brien Field.

Following the extension’s approval, Council also approved a motion to have City Mayor Curt Alexander to pen a letter to the Minnesota Twins to confirm the organization’s intent to provide financial contributions for Joe O’Brien renovations.

According to the Mayor, the goal is to receive confirmation by February so that the city can decide on what avenue they need to take for future progress at the facility.

During January’s meeting, City Council voted to approve conceptual drawings from Thomas Weems for a new clubhouse at the field, pending Twins agreement to provide funding. Over the course of four weeks, city officials indicated the organization has not confirmed they will assist with costs of improvements.
