District tournaments set for this week

Starting this week, Carter County teams will embark on their postseason journeys.
Happy Valley and Elizabethton teams will compete in the TSSAA District 1 Class AA tournament inside John Treadway Gym, while Cloudland, Hampton, and Unaka will play in the TSSAA District 1 Class A tournament at Daniel Boone High School.
District 1-AA
On the boys’ side of the court, the action will start on Wednesday as No. 7 seed Happy Valley takes on No. 2 Sullivan East at 7:30 p.m in game one.
Things will pick back up on Friday as No. 3 Johnson County plays No. 6 Sullivan Central at 6 p.m. in game two. No. 4 Elizabethton will then play No. 5 Sullivan South at 7:30 p.m. in game three.
Saturday during the semifinals, the winners of Happy Valley/Sullivan East and Johnson County/Sullivan Central will play at 5 p.m. before the victor of Elizabethton/Sullivan South takes on No. 1 seed Unicoi at 8 p.m. The winners of Saturday’s games will advance on to the championship.
The boys’ championship will be played on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. while a consolation game to decide third-place will be played at 6 p.m.
In the girls’ tournament, No. 7 Happy Valley will play No. 2 Sullivan South at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in game one. On Thursday, No. 3 Unicoi will play No. 6 Johnson County at 6 p.m. before No. 4 Sullivan East plays No. 5 Elizabethton.
The semifinals will be played on Saturday with the winners of Happy Valley/Sullivan South and Unicoi/Johnson County playing at 6 p.m. The winner of Elizabethton/Sullivan East will play No. 1 Sullivan Central at 6:30 p.m. The victors of Saturday’s game will play in the championship on Monday, February 19 at 7:30 p.m. The semifinal losers will play in a consolation game at 6 p.m.
District 1-A
In the boys’ tournament, things begin Friday as No. 4 Cloudland takes on No. 5 Sullivan North at 5:30 p.m. before No. 3 University High plays No. 6 Unaka to finish up that night’s action.
The semifinals will tip off Saturday as the winner of Cloudland/Sullivan North plays No. 1 Hampton. The winners of Unaka/UH will then play No. 2 North Greene.
The winner of Saturday’s games will play in the championship at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The consolation games will be played on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
The girls’ tournament will see No. 4 Cloudland play No. 5 Sullivan North at 4 p.m. on Friday before No. 3 Unaka and No. 6 University High play at 7 p.m.
On Saturday at 4 p.m., the winner of Cloudland/Sullivan North will take on the No. 1 seed which will either be Hampton or North Greene depending on if North Greene defeated Sullivan North Monday night. If North Greene wins they will be the No. 1 seed, while a loss a to Sullivan North will make Hampton No. 1.
The winner of University High and Unaka will play at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The girls’ championship will be played on Tuesday while the consolation game will be played Monday.
The top four teams from each tournament will advance to the region tournament with the top two teams hosting games while the three and four seeds travel.
