Prep Baseball Roundup: Happy Valley tops Bulldogs, Rangers slip past South Greene

Friday, the Hampton Bulldogs made the short journey over to Cannon-Gouge Park where they faced off with the Happy Valley Warriors.
After a tied first inning, the Warriors pushed to a late 6-2 nonconference victory.
In the top of the first, the Bulldogs got on board as Hampton’s Caleb Oaks brought home teammate Josh Ownes with an RBI single. The Warriors answered as HV’s Kevin Whitaker hit an RBI single to net teammate Will Hampton to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the second inning.
HV’s Will Hampton scored again in the third as he came home on a sacrifice fly from teammate Landon Morefield, giving the Warriors a small 2-1 edge.
The Warriors posted two runs in the fifth inning with HV’s Nolan Easlic and Morefield each hitting RBI doubles.
The Warriors gave the game its final tally when they posted two runs in the sixth inning.
For Happy Valley, Hayden Holtsclaw picked up the win as he tossed six innings while recording six strikeouts. Holtsclaw had seven hits and two runs against him.
The Bulldogs saw Dalton Rouse man the mound as he worked five innings. He finished with ten strikeouts.
Unaka 2, South Greene 1
The Rangers got past South Greene, 2-1, in some nonconference action.
Unaka’s Bryson Street picked up the win on the mound as he threw for five while striking out ten hitters. Street finished with three hits and one run against him.
At the plate, Unaka had five hits with Rangers Blake King finishing the day with two hits.
