Elizabethton High School Band celebrates seniors

For 39 senior members of the Elizabethton High School band, Thursday night marked the end of a 7-year journey.
Emotions were high as EHS hosted the annual Senior Night Honors Concert at John Treadway Gym. For the group of 39, it was their last performance with the EHS band.
“In today’s society it’s very difficult for students to commit seven months to something,” said EHS band director Perry Elliot. “These students committed seven years. So it is really outstanding.
“When they come to the conclusion of this evening, they realize that this is the end of those seven years,” continued Elliot. “That comes a little hard for some of them. Some are excited to go on to the next step. And that is what we want. We want them to go on to the next step.”
The group of seniors were presented to a crowd of friends and family that filled the gymnasium seating. The band went on to play through five pieces of music with the program being capped off with a rendition of the EHS fight song “Betsy.”
For the seniors, their time with the ‘Betsy Band has been filled with many memorable moments, said Elliot.
“Every single one of them has won at least one state championship,” said Elliot after Thursday’s program. “They haven’t been defeated in a local band contest. They have all received superior ratings at their concert festival. Then add the feather in their hat where they got to perform at the University of Tennessee during halftime inside Neyland stadium. They have been such great group of students.”
The senior class of 2018 includes Emmie Andersen, Baylor Anderson, Alexis Shianne Bier, Alan Bowers, Courtney Joye Bowers, Amara Grace Bunten, Mattie Carr, Malachi Cooper, Sarrah Eggers, Jared Erwin, Jacob Hensley, Tory Irmeger, Kenneth Raymond Kelly, Christian Laney, Breanna Little, Chloe Brianna Lyons, Ryan Lee Manuel, Ezekiel McClure, Lauryn Grace Mcginnis, Quinn McKinney, Lucas Miller, Skyler Mitchell, Abby Montford, Jackson Parker, Gavin Layne Peters, Abigail Richardson, Emily Richardson, Maddison Sheets, Katlin Shepard, Kayla Smith, Noah Stonebraker, McKenzie Storie, Cassidy Lynn Stover, Sarah Swanson, Jordan Teague, Lucien Tester, John Thomas, Travis Webb, Sadie Whitehead.
