Freshman right-hander Abby Holt pitched a complete game, striking out 10 while walking two as Happy Valley toppled Sullivan South 3-1 on Monday evening in the District 1-AA tournament. The Rebels committed a total of five fielding errors with two outfield misplays resulting in all three Happy Valley runs.

In the top of the third of a scoreless game, Kaitlyn Roberts hit a weak fly to right that was misplayed into a three-base error. From there shortstop Olivia Absher was hit by a pitch and one out later Kadie Havner sent a line drive to left that saw another South error that allowed two runs to score.

A Maci Puckett single brought home the third run of the inning and staked Holt to a comfortable lead. The Rebels got one of the runs back in the fourth on a double from starting pitcher Taylor McConnell and an RBI single from second baseman Nicole Troutman.

“Abby did a great job tonight,” Lady Warriors head coach Cody Hyder said. “She is just a freshman and she did a good job staying ahead of the hitters. I think we are playing at our most consistent level and we are getting hot. This is the right time to do it.”

For HV Roberts reached base three of four at-bats. Once on an error, then a walk and finally a fourth-inning single.
