THP identifies man killed in crash on Stoney Creek

An Elizabethton man was killed in a motor vehicle accident after leaving a family member’s home in the Stoney Creek community on Monday evening.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the person who died in the single-vehicle accident as Scotty Calloway, 44, of Elizabethton.

According to the THP, Calloway left the home of his sister-in-law and was traveling up a hill on Earl Williams Road when the Jeep he was driving went off the left side of the road and overturned. Calloway was ejected from the vehicle in the crash.

A preliminary report on the accident stated that Calloway was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. THP Trooper Jeremy Downes, who investigated the crash, stated in his report he believed the use of a seatbelt would have made a difference in the accident.
