A fatal  vehicle accident shut down both sides of Highway 321 on Monday afternoon as officers investigated the crash.

The accident happened near Little Stoney on Highway 321. Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Nathan Hall described the crash as a “two-car head-on collision” and confirmed there was one person killed in the accident.

“That is all we know right now,” Hall said. The accident is still under investigation at this time, according to Hall. More information will be released as it becomes available, he added.

Motorists were being turned around at the Watauga Point Recreation Area. Some were parking to wait for the road to be reopened while others left to look for alternate routes.
