Honoring Those Who Served: Volunteers place flags on veterans graves at Mountain Home

Morning rains did not deter local volunteers who braved the weather to pay tribute to veterans who served their country.

On Saturday morning, members of local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops along with other volunteers walked through the Mountain Home National Cemetery on the campus of the VA Medical Center in Johnson City placing American Flags at each gravesite.

After placing the flag, the volunteers offered a salute to the veteran and read aloud the veteran’s name. By reading each name out loud, it ensures that those buried at Mountain Home will never be forgotten, according to Jeny Walker, director of Mountain Home National Cemetery.

The flags remained in place at the cemetery throughout the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
