Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that took place Saturday that claimed the life of an Elizabethton resident.

According to THP’s preliminary report, Dale Nelson, 48, was traveling on State Route 400 toward Johnson City when his vehicle ran off the roadway near the intersection of Piney Flats Road. The vehicle ran off into a ditch on the right side of the road before ending up back on the roadway and coming to a rest on the left side of the roadway. Speed was not a factor, according to THP, and the driver was wearing a seatbelt.
