8-month-old found dead at Lynn Ridge Apartments

Elizabethton Police Department confirmed that an eight-month-old passed away Tuesday, July 10, at Lynn Ridge Apartments.

According to information provided by the department, EPD, along with Carter County Emergency and Rescue Squad, arrived on scene at 7:18 a.m. at the apartment complex near Bluefield Avenue on the report of a child in cardiac arrest.

“Initial dispatch informed officers and EMS that the mother had awoke to find the child not breathing. Carter County 911 dispatchers gave CPR instructions to the 911 callers and upon arrival of EPD officers and EMS, it was determined that the eight-month-old was deceased and beyond help of any lifesaving emergency medical treatment,” EPD said in a statement issued to the Elizabethton Star.

Police department investigators, Carter County coroner investigators from the medical examiner’s office and investigators with the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services responded on scene to assist EPD in the investigation in the death of the child. The body was taken for an autopsy and the investigation is ongoing. No arrests and no further information was provided prior to the Elizabethton Star’s press deadline.

EPD Chief Jason Shaw issued a statement, sending his thoughts and prayers to the family of the child during the time of loss and to all officials that responded to the tragic event.
