Tuesday marked the end of the annual Summer Reading Program for the Elizabethton/Carter County Library, and to celebrate the completion of the program young readers gathered for a party in the park.

Children and their families gathered Tuesday morning at Edwards Island Park for a variety of games, a sweet treat, and, of course, books. Each child received a gift bag from the library and was able to select a book to take home with them.

The families enjoyed a variety of activities, such as bowling, three-legged races, sack races, and sidewalk chalk art. And, everyone received some ice cream.

The young readers also got to take home their summer reading logs that tracked the number of books they read during the program.
