Twins down Mets, 4-3

The Elizabethton Twins wrapped up its series with Kingsport Wednesday night at Joe O’Brien Field.
E-Town, despite getting outhit 13-8, fended off the Mets, 4-3.
The win gives Elizabethton a 26-18 record and a 2.5 game lead over the Mets (25-22) in the Appalachian League West as of Wednesday night. Elizabethton began its home series with Bluefield Thursday night.
After collecting a run in the first inning, the Mets worked out to a 3-2 lead after three frames. The Twins connected for two runs in the ninth inning to give the game its final tally. In the ninth, Elizabethton’s Ricky De La Torre hit a line drive single to left field scoring Trevor Casanova and Colton Burns.
The third saw Elizabethton’s Lean Marrero hit an RBI double to score teammate Torre before Twins Yeltsin Encarnacion came home during a groundout by Jean Carlos Arias.
The Twins worked through three pitchers Wednesday with Tyler Palm getting the start. Palm tossed five innings while striking out four batters with no walks. He had three hits and three runs against. Palm was relieved by J.T. Perez who worked 1.2 innings as he struck out three hitters with one walk and three hits against. Elizabethton’s Johan Quezada (W, 2-2) tossed the last 2.1 innings as he earned the win. Quezada held the Mets at bay as he retired three batters with two hits against.
