With safety at schools becoming a priority across the state, students within Carter County Schools System will see a friendly face from the Carter County Sheriff’s Office on a daily basis.
The school system held a meeting on Friday, Aug. 10, at the Workforce Development Office near Northeast State Community College with members of the CCSO that will serve as student resource officers (SROs) for the 2018-19 academic year. Due to the partnership between the school system and CCSO, the system is now fully staff with an SRO for each school. This marks the first year the system is fully staffed with SROs.
Safety measures within the county school district also received some help from the state level thanks in part to a $150,000-plus grant. School officials recently told the Elizabethton Star that plans for the funding aren’t finalized just yet, but that the system is looking at ways to improve how school staff identifies and vets visitors coming into the school.
