With the sun shining bright and schools and various businesses closed for the day, the public was able to enjoy the conclusion of their three-day weekend on Monday to celebrate Labor Day.
Over the course of the weekend, the City of Elizabethton was home to various events and activities, ranging from a block party for the Douglas community to a movie night at Covered Bridge Park. And the action spilled over into Monday with multiple individuals coming to Elizabethton to take in the scenic views and activities available.
It was hard to pass up the opportunity to ride the Tweetsie Trail for some, like Don and Mary Jo McKeon. The married couple, who were on their bikes to enjoy the shade, are from Greeneville and indicated they enjoy their time on the Tweetsie Trail. They also pointed out parking in Elizabethton was filled to the brim with the public coming down to either bike, walk, run or just enjoy quality time in the great outdoors.
Another area bustling with traffic was Riverside Park. Nestled beside the Watauga River, the public was able to take full advantage of the new park equipment that was recently installed by Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department. In the Watauga River, many were able to either take in some fishing opportunities or enjoy the whitewater in a kayak.
